What Role Do Emotions Play In Consciousness?

Emotions are biological states associated with all of the nerve systems brought on by neurophysiological changes variously associated with thoughts, feelings, behavioural responses, and a degree of pleasure or displeasure. There is currently no scientific consensus on a definition. Emotions are often intertwined with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, creativity, and motivation. Research on emotion has increased significantly over the past two decades with many fields contributing including psychology, neuroscience, affective neuroscience, endocrinology, medicine, history, sociology of emotions, and computer science. The numerous theories that attempt to explain the origin, neurobiology, experience, and function of emotions have only fostered more intense research on this topic.

  1. This notion of “the heart” being the center of emotion is actually intriguing- most people see this as a metaphor not the anatomical beating physical heart - however - there are many documentaries, anecdotal accounts of heart transplant recipients being transformed by the “emotional, feelings” associated with the donor -the physical heart actually carries emotional imprints/energy memories! absolutely fascinating

  2. Interesting question. We seem only to witness the result, when we can identify which emotion we felt. At its core, I believe what motivates us, begins in our hearts followed by the mind.
I think too the last speaker made the most sense. He mentioned this 'space' that was only recently addressed or discovered has many names. It's been called the Quantum Hologram, Nature's Mind, the Matrix and the Field. For me, I'll go with what he said Stephen Hawking called it ... 'the mind of God'.
Also, in thinking about the original question, maybe we could also ask if our emotions cause us to dream during sleep?
Thanks for the thought provoking. Do you know the names of the speakers in the video?
